Trade Your Plastic Water Bottles for the Best Stainless Steel Drink Bottle on the Market

Just 10 or 20 years ago, single-use plastic water bottles were everywhere. Today, these flimsy disposable water bottles are still commonplace, but they have begun losing their hold on the market for one very notable reason: they can be dangerous. At EcoVessel, we aim to fight against the use of disposable plastic bottles with high-quality stainless steel drink bottles that are more durable, more functional and healthier.

The Risks of Single-Use Plastic Water Bottles

So what's the deal with single-use plastic water bottles? Most disposable plastic water bottles can pose a risk both to your health and to the environment.

Single-use bottles can be made of several different types of plastic. Depending on the makeup of your plastic bottle, you could face different consequences for drinking water out of that bottle—particularly if you try to refill and reuse the bottle repeatedly. Some plastic water bottles are made of polyethylene terephthalate (commonly abbreviated either PET or PETE), which some scientists say can leach DEHA (di(2-ethylhexyl) adiphate) into your water. DEHA may or may not be carcinogenic to humans.

Other plastics used in water bottles don't contain DEHA but do contain a compound called Bisphenol A, or BPA. BPA mimics estrogen and can have unnatural and unintended effects on the female reproductive system, as well as on other bodily systems like the brain, breasts, prostate and immune system. Researchers even suggest that BPA can lead to behavioural issues, brain disorders and other problems in children.

There have been some studies done to suggest that neither BPA nor DEHA pose significant dangers to humans in low quantities. Even if these chemical compounds are safe, though, disposable plastic bottles still pose a threat to something else: the environment. Plastic water bottles can reportedly take up to a millennium to biodegrade naturally. When left to sit in landfills, plastic bottles can leak toxic chemicals (phthalates) into the ground water.

In short, by cutting down on your usage of bottled water, you can do your part to reduce pollution and protect the environment—as well as safeguard your own health. A stainless steel drink bottle from EcoVessel can help you achieve both goals.
